Maaria

In the Maaria area, to the east of the Maaria Basin, there are many trails and paths suitable for outdoor activities. The area offers the opportunity to embark on hikes of varying lengths through diverse terrain. Along the shore of the Maaria Basin, you can enjoy the nature of the river valley. The landscape includes fields, meadows, and riverside forests.

Heading east from the shore, the terrain becomes varied. Along the paths, you can experience a wide range of Finnish forest nature. The area features pine, spruce, and deciduous forests, as well as wetlands. During your hike, you’ll encounter Finland's main forest types: dry heath forests, fresh heath forests, and deciduous forests. The trails pass several noteworthy sites, such as the boundary rock in an open rocky landscape, the mill bridge crossing the Maaria Basin, the ancient Äkölä spring, and two Stone Age settlement sites.

In the summer, after your hike, you can refresh yourself at the Maaria beach. The beach is in an exotic-feeling spot at the bottom of a steep-sided sand pit, with a small island in the middle. The trails in the Maaria area are accessible from several directions by foot or bike, but the best way to reach the beach is by car, where you can park at the Maaria beach parking lot.

The address of Maaria beach is: Karhunojantie 159
