Myllärintalo in Halinen
The Aura River Visitor Center Myllärintalo and the Myllärintalo Café will reopen in spring 2025
Halistenkoski, along with its surroundings, uniquely combines river nature, culture, and history. Myllärintalo is located in the unique and picturesque environment of Halistenkoski in Turku, about three kilometres from the city center, on the banks of the Aura River. The nearly two-hundred-year-old, renovated historical building was once part of the Maaria mill complex.
In the vicinity of the rapids area, you will find the Virnamäki heritage and archaeological site trails, as well as the Turku Waterworks Museum. The area is a popular outdoor destination, easily accessible via Föli buses and cycling or pedestrian routes from Turku city center all the way to Lieto.

Did you know this about the history of Myllärintalo?
Myllärintalo means the millers house and it was completed in 1832 as the residence of the mill inspector of the Maaria mills. At that time, pharmacist Eric Julin was the mill's lessee. On the site of the current shed, there was a cottage built in 1819, which was reserved as a residence for millers, mill hands, and their families.
The mill inspectors and later the mill lessees who lived in this house were of the nobility, so the rooms were spacious. In the 1910s, the house was converted into housing for several families of millers by adding partition walls and kitchen stoves.
The milling operations declined starting in the 1940s, and the mill buildings either burned down or were demolished.
The house, owned by the City of Turku, was then used for regular rental purposes. Since the turn of the millennium, the Aura River Foundation has operated in Myllärintalo in collaboration with the city.
