Christmas Calendar 2025 – Aura River without Himalayan balsam

In December, the Aura River Foundation will launch the new “Aura River without Himalayan balsam” Christmas calendar, highlighting the year’s work on invasive species and its importance for the well-being of the river’s nature.

The fight against Himalayan balsam has again been a key part of our work this year. It protects bank biodiversity, prevents erosion and supports the long-term vitality of the Aura River. Through the Christmas calendar, we want to openly share what we have achieved together with our volunteers – and why this work is so important.

The calendar shows, among other things:

• highlights of the year’s work

• stories from volunteers

• experts’ perspectives

• before and after photos

• behind the scenes of projects

The small collection continues – come and support the Aura River!

The proceeds of the collection will be used primarily to finance the control of alien species in 2026, with the aim of maintaining and developing the work of volunteers in the Aura River area, especially in the fight against giant balsam, by organising Thursday walks at Halistenkoski and other sites in the river catchment area. The proceeds will also support communication, volunteer tools and a community-building thanksgiving event.

Secondarily, the funds will be used for other activities supporting the Aura River Foundation’s work on invasive species, water protection and community-based environmental education in the Aura River area.
