Haltuun – Development of Water Management in the Aura River and Paattinen River

Operational area: The Aura River basin, especially the Paattinen River catchment area.
Project Description:
The Haltuun project aims to improve water management and reduce nutrient loading in the Aura and Paattinen Rivers. These measures help mitigate eutrophication in the Archipelago Sea. The project combines monitoring and research, landowner engagement, practical water protection actions, and broad communication.

Tasks and Measures
- Load and water quality mapping: Detailed monitoring of the Paattinen River catchment and a Hot Spot load map.
- Support for landowners: Collaboration with farmers and stakeholders, tailored action proposals.
- Practical measures: Wetlands, two-stage ditches, controlled drainage, and other solutions.
- Training and peer learning: Field margin events, grazing meetings, training evenings, and peer groups.
- Communication and information dissemination: Podcasts, campaigns, interactive maps, and events.
Reporting
Project progress is reported to the Centre for Vitality, partners, and regional networks.
