Partner selected for the Keltalammikki VEX project
The Aura River Foundation has selected Watec Consulting Oy as the project partner for the Keltalammikki VEX project. The procurement process concluded in March 2026 and aimed to identify an expert partner to develop and pilot a surface covering method to control Yellow fringed Lily aka Nymphoides peltata in the Aura River.
The two-year project (2026–2027) focuses on method development and practical testing in flowing water conditions. The goal is to create an effective and scalable solution, as well as an open-access method guide that can be applied in other water bodies.
Expertise in water restoration
Watec Consulting Oy is an expert company specializing in water management and stormwater solutions. The company has extensive experience in water planning in both flowing waters and urban environments, and also develops new solutions when needed to meet environmental goals.
In the project, Watec is responsible for developing the method plan and supporting the planning and implementation of practical measures. This includes designing the covering structures, preparing pilot actions, and further developing the technical aspects of the method in collaboration with the Aura River Foundation.
Work begins in spring 2026
The preparation phase of the project will begin in spring 2026 with method planning and permit procedures. The first practical measures will be carried out during the growing season in the Aura River in the Lieto area.
Nymphoides peltata is a rapidly spreading aquatic plant that forms dense mats, reducing light penetration and negatively impacting water ecosystems and recreational use. The aim of the project is to stop its spread in the Aura River and develop an effective control method for wider use.
The project is funded by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southwest Finland as part of rural development funding. Additional funding has been granted by the Ossi and Raija Tuulainen Foundation.
Updates on the project will be shared on the Aura River Foundation’s website and social media channels.
