Thursday Volunteer Work invites people to care for local nature once again
An easy way to help local nature and spend time outdoors together.
Turku’s Thursday Volunteer Work programme is once again underway this year. The season, which began in April, will continue until September and includes a variety of nature management and environmental volunteer activities across Turku.
The aim of Thursday Volunteer Work is to provide an easy, low-threshold opportunity to take part in caring for local nature in good company. No previous experience is required – guidance is provided on site, and everyone can participate according to their own abilities.
During the summer, activities include litter-picking events, meadow management work, nature management activities and Himalayan balsam removal. Volunteer events will take place in locations including Koroinen, Halinen, the Skanssi Biodiversity Park, Härkämäki and Korppoolaismäki.
The volunteer events combine practical work for the benefit of nature, a sense of community, and opportunities to learn about topics such as invasive species and the management of traditional habitats. For many participants, the events are also a chance to meet new people and discover local nature from new perspectives.
The 2026 Thursday Volunteer Work season is organised in cooperation by the Aura River Foundation, the Turku Nature Society, Elävän kulttuurin Koroinen Association, Valonia and the City of Turku.
The events are held on Thursdays from 23 April to 10 September 2026, starting at 5:00 PM.
